 Big Island Speaks!

Aloha, This is Michael Castillo or Big Island.  I've got a new project for 2009.  It's called "Nui Art Projects" or "n.a.p.".  "Nui" which means "big" in Hawaiian, what most of my brothers and sisters in the bike/skate/tattoo families have opted to call me.  It will be based out here on the beautiful island of Oahu.  I will be doing projects with my worldwide families.  Not only will there be a clothing line for men and women, but projects in all different avenues.  I will also be helping others with designs/projects in their respected endeavors.  I will be posting updates on Hawaii's Shoots Brah! crew site:  http://www.shootsbrah.blogspot.com/  Keep an eye open, cuz it's n.a.p. time.  Shoots and Mahalo, Nui Art Projects.

Ever wonder what Degroot does at UGP? Your answers are here:

 Kip in the House!

Yo Yo,  I hope you are having a good holiday season.  When I showed up in Cali back in late October, I was pretty stoked to see the new trailer wrap!  Thought you might want to see it.  These new logos will be going on all the jerseys, t shirts, and trailers soon, including the two halp pipes.  Some of you may notice the vintage BMX Action font style which is pretty sick.  Thanks Kip!

Rob Nolli here jumping over another victim and below doing the backflip.  2008

OH SHIT! we're back

ask mark a question- mark@pusherbmxmagazine.com

hey mark
just how many beers is too many?
thanks crew jones

Haha. Depends. Is it too many when you start doing dick tricks on stage or steal the bars microphone? Maybe. Is it too many when you slip on a man hole cover and break your collar bone? Probably a freak accident. Is it too many when you start thinking you are the coolest guy in the bar screaming and yelling? Maybe for others around you. Is it too many when you launch a charcoal covered log over a fire knocking down a Canadian Pro Skater at a quarry Bonfire? Nah-thats humor. Is it too many if you agree to drinking the bong water at the jackson house? Fuck it. It was a dare.
Well I guess too many only comes when you drink all the beer. Leaving nothing for the next day. All these stories aren't true. Or At least we don't remember them happening.

  • Huge Colorado Springs Skatepark

    1-21-2008 vital bmx news-losey

With a lot of hard work and effort, our dreams are finally coming true. We have been working with our Park and Rec department over many years pushing our Colorado Springs "skatepark" project. We are in the home stretch of this thing and would like some feedback from all of you. Here is the design that Team Pain has come up with. What we're looking on getting from you is... your input! What do you think of this design? Is this something that you would want in your hometown? Is it something that you would go out of your way to go shred if it was in your area? Would you make vacation plans to specifically visit Colorado Springs to stop by this park? Does this look like a top-ten all-time skatepark? What are your top parks? What improvements would you make? This is supposed to be a cutting edge design that our Park and Rec wants to be proud of. Do you feel this design represents cutting edge? Please take the time to put in your two cents. We have some ideas to make it better but don't let us get caught in our tunnel vision. Like I said, this is a Team Pain design. Your input (positive or negative) can only make this park better and it's not going to hurt my feelings at all because it's not our design. I would like to go to this next meeting with some great ideas to present to our Park and Rec, the Pain Team, and our whole skatepark coalition.

This thing is going down in May, absolutely, positively for sure!!! Please give your age, where you live, and if you want, your occupation. If you’re interested in donating, you can do that, too. Let me know and I will give you the information on how to make a money donation to the park fund that is a 100% tax write off. Good stuff huh? I appreciate all the help in the past from everyone and hopefully will be seeing all of you here this summer!!! —Duncan Gore

AT WINDELLS

SUMMER SESSIONS

New BMX features and coaches open with

summer session June 6th

MT HOOD, OR – June 4,  2009 – Northwest BMX legends and riders from the Dew Tour will be flowing in and out of Windells all summer long. KC badger, Tom Dillion, Lil Jon, Darin Read and plenty of others will help kick off the BMX summer sessions which start June 6th.

“Between all the awesome riders coming through and the completion of the BOB, it should be an amazing summer,” says Windells BMX Director Micah Kranz, “It should be the best summer sessions we’ve ever had.”

The Windells campus has 15 acres dedicated to BMX with full blown dirt trails, concrete parks, box jumps, vert ramp and the only indoor park in the region – BOB. The recently completed concrete features add to the already state-of-the-art facility and BOB now has a 75ft mini ramp, street course, and giant foam pit to provide riders with an opportunity to safely work on new tricks and maneuvers.
Besides the diverse facilities, Windells also offers coaching for all levels.  Whether it is dropping in for the first time to riding the biggest trails imaginable, coaches can help riders practice and improve their skills.

“Windells park was the best I’ve ever ridden,” says Camper Micheal Moore, “Thanks for the amazing experience.”

Campers can stay overnight or attend the weeklong camps daily. The camp includes instruction, food, prizes, supervision, video review, camp activities and more. To register go to www.windells.com <http://www.windells.com> .

We're planning a roadtrip through New Jersey this summer over the course of eight days. We're going to be stopping by some local bike shops to check things out and hopefully meet up with some locals to ride (community spots that can't be blown up--we're not trying to poach, just trying to have a good time and meet new people). Our plan is to film both the Madera team and well as the locals for some future edits on the Madera site.

Dates and bike shop stops will be announced soon. Stay tuned.

PROFILE goes to the dirty!

Ryan and Ali Nyquist are proud parents of a bran new baby boy as of November 28th.  This is gonna be good.  Dad teaches son how to truck a 7.  SICK!  Congratulations guys!

Colorado Springs native Nic Bonner thew down some technical stunts to take the win in the FLow's Dirty East Contest November 9th.   What can I write.  If you know Nic, you know he killed it.  If you don't.  You soon will.

Mike Aitken is improving everyday keep on supporting and praying for our boy. Jams and benefits are happening all over Colorado and 2100 dollars have been raised. Good work!

Kye Forte his brother Leo and a few other blokes were in Denver this week. Their on a road trip from Cali to Nevada to Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.

Denver local, Mike Meister, slid out at the new Parker skatepark which resulted in Mike knocking out his tooth and spliting his chin open also blowing out his hand. Mike is solid and is probably all ready riding.

I have just been informed that legendary shredder, Dave Voelker , just broke his first bone.  "pins in ankle" is what it read.  So I guess Dave just broke his first bone.  Probably his ankle.  And I guess they put it back together with pins. Happy Halloween!

Congratulations goes out to Mr. and Mrs Leigh Ramsdell.  Leigh tied the knot on October 25, 2008 with long time girl friend Katie.  So our best wishes goes out to a our dear friends.

The Salt Lake city's solid community of bikers raised 5,600 dollars for their boy Mike Aitken. The jam went down at Tanner jumps and word from Fuzz is that it was a killer day of riding.

Harry Delprete, of Orlando, Florida got into a fight with Ryan Sheckler and his posse at the Dew tour in Orlando this weekend. Details are a little sketchy but story goes something like this. Harry was in the hotel when Ryan and his gang approached Harry and started a fight. Ryan hit Harry and ran while the rest of the hardcore millionaire kids attacked  and choked out Harry. Ryan is a small kid and Harry is a large militant man, so with that said Ryan, would of had to have some help in taking down Harry. Funny shit though, kind of. Keep you guys updated on this one.

Mike Aitken opened his eyes for a moment the other day, and looked at Brian Foster. The doctors are waiting for Mikey to come around fully to determine what damage has been done. Cross your fingers everybody.

Pusher Magazine is having a Halloween costume party on the 30th of Oct. @ 3 Kings Tavern on south Broadway in Denver. We will also be holding a fund raiser for Mikey that night as well so bring and give what you can. Bands, beer and costumes start at 8, so don't be afraid to dress up and get drunk like Jason on Friday the 13th.

Mike Aitken. wrecked pretty bad at Posh on the 5th of Oct. He's in bad shape and needs your bmx prayers.  Don't want to say to much till I know everything for sure. We will keep you posted. Were with you Mikey!

A sequel to the movie Rad is being made. How crazy is that? Supposed to be an original line up as much as they can. You can also pick up rad on dvd soon. The original not that bootleg shit that you find on the net.

This is the Catty Woods video, it is a real fuckin trail video, with real good riding that makes you want to dig and have a shit load of fun at the same time.  Buy this video and help save the Catty trails. A fence is needed around the trails and the boys can keep there jumps.  A worthy cause if I've ever seen one.

I just heard that SIMONTabron is moving to the states-Salt Lake maybe, as well as Verde and Duo clothing's owner,Cory Muth.

Pusher Magazine is off to Salt Lake city for a hangover and a  Dew tour stop #4. Look for updates and photos over the next couple of days.

Expect a Fuzzy Hall interview coming soon!

Freestylin' Magazine. the baddest BMX mag ever from back in the day, just put out a 156 page book. This is  an amazing book filled with old school interviews, photos and stories. Only a lucky few got an issue so if you get a chance to get your hands on one you better do it. Old school or new school you got to love it.

John Jennings has moved out to California to live with Stephen Murray. John is out there for support and to make Stephens life a little more fun. What a cool ass move.

Just got issue #3 of Holeshot zine in the mail. It's always good when a killer zine comes in the mail. Check out this issue for 3 bucks at www.holeshotbmx.net

Pat Sabo, of Colorado left his bike at the trails and somebody gladly took it home. Pat was hammered and has nobody to blame but his drunken self.

Brighton, Colorado has a new cement park that is bike friendly. Why not go check it out? Look for a park check here soon!

Props 69 is out and it shows off a few Colorado locals, Adrian Vigil, AJ Anaya, Billy Graham and Matt Olsen. The V got a lot of footage. Word!

Paul Kintner dirt jumping styler is the proud brother of Jill Kintner, who took home the bronze in women's BMX racing.

Nic Bonner is on is way back from Canada. Nic had gone up there to marry his sweetheart but romance isnt all it's cracked up to be. We welcome him back to Colorado with open arms.

Joe Pro, ex owner of Right Bros. bike shop in Colorado recently suffered a stroke. Not good at such an early age. Joe spent 8 days in the hospital and the stroke left him slurring some words and numbness in his left side. Everybody wish the guy a healthy recovery.

SandM bikes and Metal bikes have split ways. Not sure who will be making the Metal bikes in the future but we will keep you posted.

Just rolled into town from the Dew Tour with more stories than ever. Some I can tell you about others you will just have to read the book. Dew tour is a lot of fun for me as a judge. I get to watch all my friends and others ride there asses off, then at night we all rage the parties that they put on for everybody. This week was a blast to say the least,. Nike threw a hell of a party stocked with cereal, donuts, food and alcohol. Shit got loose as it should. The paparazzi were out and they all wanted shots with the legends of bmx. The contest was off the hook for sure, quad whips, decade 540s, triple whip 3s and the best dirt comp of all the Dew tours. Look for a full story and photos soon.

This may not be news to you but fixed gear bikes for the purpose of doing tricks, blows.

Jimmy Levan has had some more bad luck. Some old man made an illegal left turn that sent Jimmy flying. The hit broke his femur and required a titanium rod through his leg. I've been talking to Jimmy trying to give him some advise for what he's in store for since I'm going through that myself. Can a guy get a brake?

For those of you riders out there that have'nt had the pleasure (and I mean that tingling feeling in your pants) of meeting Darrel Nau, I recommend it as soon as possible. Sharp dresser with multiple talents, one them is knowing how to have a damn good time.

Big Island had a baby girl, a big congrats goes out to you buddy.

Ryan Nyquist is also having a baby.

Rumor has it that Nic Bonner is moving out of Colorado to Florida and then to the furthest reaches of Canada to marry his girl. This leaves most of us in Colorado real bummed and real puzzeld. Nic, if you are out there call the Pusher headquarters. Don't do it buddy.

Leigh Ramsdell crashed on a 20-stair rail, he got up to do it before the swelling came to his knee. Leigh got the rail and then went to slide the 20-stair feeble ledge, his peg popped off and he knocked himself out cold. So after a week of crutching around at the Dew tour Leigh went to have it looked at, and it it turns out he broke his femur and fractured his knee cap. He's  out for the summer. I hope it wasn't from hanging out with me. Leigh is now in percocet land.

Billy Graham is road trippin' in Michigan and won't be back for his own trail jam. Bullshit right? Billy's been riding trails and hopefully wearing off his demented aggression towards life. If Billy can't ride trails somebody is going to die.

Clay Brown Just got back from crutching and judging around on the Dew Tour in Baltimore. 1st stop of the year and it was action packed. Nyquist won the dirt with 720 double barspins and cannonball doublebarspins. sick as fuck.  Jamie Bestwick destroyed the vert ramp with unrivaled  height and style. Alley oop downside whips at 9 feet drifting across the ramp. Daniel Dhers won street but everybody ripped, new guys were making the finals and crazy tricks were every run. High light of the week was seeing Stephen Murray back at the contest were he crashed a year ago.The man was looking good and everybody was glad to see him. TJ Lavin wrote and made a video for Stephen and it played on the big screen before finals in dirt. Intense! Stephen is doing good but still needs lots of help. You can help out by going to www.stehenmurrayfamilyfund.com

The V-jam is going down on the Friday the 4th of July, bbq beers and the best trails around. Were going to give out prizes like 40s and porn so it should be good. Best wreck best huck , best stiff but you name it. Come down and get dirty.

Mat Hoffman was in a car wreck and hit by a semi at fifty miles an hour. His shoulder had to be rebuilt and hit his head real bad with bad side affects. This is the last thing that this guy needs. Fuck that!

DG decade @ taylor elementary jumpbox show

Duncan Gore made some calls and got his shit together for a fundraiser for Taylor Elementary.  Duncan Gore, Justin Merchak, Nic Bonner, Pat and Bryan hit the box with Chris on emcee. The show went well with a backflip -arama finale. and even with a broken finger-nic still gets the job done. Nice work fellas!

Nic Bonner went to the furthest city in Canada to spend 2 weeks with a chick doing what lovers do. Instead of a romantic getaway nic got hella sick and spent the week in the hospital. A cancelled flight and a huge doctor bill later he is now back in Colorado shredding.

The V got wrecked buy some pussy ass bitches. But you can't stop us as we are already riding. Why would somebody destroy jumps?

Mark Rainha got in car wreck and had to sport a neck brace for a while. Should be ok because he's from Boston.

Clay Brown would like to report that his bike is the best bike in Colorado because it can jump the V and looks oh so good.

Stephen Murray will be designing the Dew dirt courses for 2008.

Fuck Yeah!

Jay Nelson

is back on the 20. Equipped with a brand new complete bike, SandM LTF with all the trimmings.

jay table @ boulder
Jay does not liked to be called a toothless hick. Just ask the guy at Winter Park ski resort in Colorado. Jay and this guy got into it in the
parking lot and  the guy called Jay a toothless hick and the shit was on. Jay had a full mountain dew and proceeded to pour it on the guys face. Jay then describes how he used his long old arm to grab the dude and give him one in the face.

Welcome back to riding you toothless hick.

spy photo and writeup crew jones

uh yeah..thats right -thanks to dunc and all of the colorado springs crew, team pain returned with some major improvements in their initial designs. it looks like its gonna be 2 sections, skate plaza style and a bowls setup. with rumors of big stair sets, big rails and ledges, pool style coping on a pool style bowl, a crazy jump box to berm, something that resembles the china banks and maybe a 2nd phase to include some sort of snake run. huh. goto www.teampain.com to check their skills-nice eyecandy there. these guys seem to have it together.um it looks like the timetable is pushing the park completion back to some time in the fall. see you there.

Hey Duncan,
Sorry about the long delay in response. Been kinda busy with life and also filming for Josh's vid. It's gonna be insane!!!!! So I took a look at the link and it's kinda hard to get a grasp for the layout and design through the photo, but it looks like it could be fun. It's really skate oriented, which I guess it what kids like now-a-days, but coming from a transition guy, I'd love to see the whole Skate Plaza area utilized better than just stairs and lots of flat ground with nothing in between. Throw some tranny pyramids in there or something, or some nipples. Something just to break up the huge area of flat concrete. The concrete bowl area is hard to visualize from the drawing. But hopefully it has plenty to offer in the way of blastibility. I'm not one that like to hover around the coping too much, but again, that's just my style of riding. To be honest, the whole thing looks like it's designed to flow downhill. In the drawing you start at the right and just start dropping stairs and banks until you get to the bottom left. I think I could have a great time riding the park, but I'd love to see the space get utilized more with other obstacles giving some directional options as well. Hope that helps. Rocket airs!!!!!
Ryan

NIC BONNER VIDEO
This video was sent to Dunc via vitalbmx member sunfallco.  They have a clothing company based in Golden/Denver, Colorado.  Cool bunch of kids.  Their team is compiled of some of the best young guns of Colorado as well as Troy Merkle of Dayton.  Nick has just been added to their roster of shredders.  This is some mild footage of the technical skills that Nick possesses.  Nick is a real life video game, and we can't turn him off!!!
